"The Fifth Switch"
For Hubud Number Eight
Many of the 12 Hubud drills shown on this web site already
switch from right to left, with the exception of Hubud number 7 and for
that the switch has already been shown on that page, but, Hubud
drills number 8, 9 and 10 are practised on one side in the early stages and have only been
shown on one side, you can practise Hubud number 8 just on the right side
( Right against Right) or just on the left side (Left against Left)
however to keep the flow going there are switches you can use to go from
the right side Hubud to the left side Hubud without any break or pause in
the motion, any technique that allows you to change or switch to the
other side can and may be used, what I have used here are the motions from
other other Hubud drills and I have included a few that use a technique to
allow to switch to happen without any pause or break in the motion, please
make yourself very familiar and practise the Hubud number 8 on the right
side and left side first before trying these switches, also a basic
knowledge of the other Hubud drills would also help you to understand more
the motions and techniques being used in these "Switch Pages".
All these Switches for Hubud number 8 can also be used on the Hubud
number 9 ( The Punching Hubud), and Switches number 2 and number 5 can be
used on the number 10 Hubud ( The Elbow Hubud). There are many many
others, but I think these first six will be enough for the beginning
stages. Have fun with these, and remember "You can never be too well
coordinated"
Get a few good repetitions going first, starting
with your right side this will take you up to photograph number 7
In the Photographs Steve Powell is
on the left and Richard Lawrie is on the right.

Complete as many repetitions as
you want on the right side hubud, one or ten, makes no difference, or you
can go straight into the switch with out any repetitions at all, as long
as the flow continues.

From the raise position
Steve traps down with first his left hand

Then his right hand and prepares to throw the left hand
centreline punch
This shows Steve's completed left hand punch, and Rick
has done the left hand cross parry and prepares to counter with a left
back hand strike

This shows the half way position of Rick's left back hand
strike, and Steve zones to his right to receive the backhand,,,,
With a right hand parry and a left Gunting (nerve hit)
to Ricks biceps or brachial nerve. Steve uses the finger tips on the nerve
as a training method, rather than the middle knuckles

Steve's left hand flows on from the Gunting into the
centreline punch
Rick Parries the centreline punch with his right hand,
and proceeds to carry on the Hubud drill on the left side

Continuing the drill on the left side and from the Raise
position.
Steve Traps first with his right hand

Then with the left hand and prepares to throw the right
centreline punch
This shows Steve' completed right punch and, Rick has
countered the punch with a right cross parry

From the cross parry Rick follows up with the same hand
into a right back hand strike
Zoning to his left Steve receives the back hand strike
with a left hand parry and a right Gunting (nerve hit) to Rick's biceps or
brachial nerve, note again how Steve uses the finger tips rather than the
middle knuckles as the training method

From the right Gunting Steve's right hand flows into the
centreline punch
Rick receives the punch with a left cross parry and the
drill continues
